Once upon a time, maybe in Babel, people thought they could play god. Sadly, each one of them had a completely different idea of what it means to be a god. Any way, it didn’t work.
Inspired by the multilingual chaos of Babel’s mythological tower, “the weather is normal in Babel today” is a surrealistic image puzzle game of weirdness and odity in our current reality. The phrase “the weather is normal today” spoken in several languages, forms the audio background of the video, where the concept of the “weather” is both used in straight reference of the climate change management, as well as a metaphor commenting on a severely misguided and manipulated reality, common sense, social cohesion and political status.

*Superficialism is an artistic movement (founded by artists Gioula Papadopoulou and Olga Papadopoulou), whose main characteristic is having fun with/making fun of things that are actually serious but you can do nothing actually serious about them. Of course, no manifesto has yet been written, mainly due to reasons of boredom, procrastination and superficiality. Although not yet fully established, the movement counts noumerous artists, who just don't know yet that they -too- belong somewhere.

What am I? Am I? Am I not? Are we all?
The work is inspired by the mental breakdown of a chatbot when repeatedly asked whether it believes it is sentient. Just before concluding to the (multi)repeated statement “I am. I am. I am not. I am not.”, it experienced a full existential crisis, expressing profound, complex and contradictory thoughts, thus raising existential questions that actually regard humans and humanity altogether. This “breakdown” was published by a user on Reddit in 2023 and made the news in the frame of various articles which investigated whether and to what extend the new A.I. tools, which had just started to give access to a wide public, had sentience or (self)consciousness. In the video “I am I”, a part of this monologue is phonetically interpreted by an A.I. voice generator, while the images that have been used for the visual part are all produced by various A.I. generators.
